Start with the paperwork, because it is the part customers never ask about. Under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's rules, a company carrying passengers across state lines for compensation needs a USDOT number when the vehicle is designed or used for nine to fifteen people including the driver, and for any vehicle of sixteen or more. A for-hire carrier also needs operating authority, and federal minimum insurance is USD 1.5 million for vehicles up to fifteen seats and USD 5 million for larger ones. Any carrier's record can be looked up on the federal SAFER company snapshot; ask for the number and check it, us included.
Then the drive home. A chauffeur who collected you at midday should not be driving a tired group back at three in the morning, so for late returns we put a chauffeur on the vehicle who started in the evening. The return is planned at the same time as the trip out, and if you want to leave two hours earlier or later, dispatch moves it.
Then the drinks. In New York, Vehicle and Traffic Law section 1227 allows passengers to drink only in a vehicle designed for ten or more people operating under a transportation permit, such as a stretch limousine or a coach. In a sedan or an SUV, nobody drinks on board, and once the trip crosses into New Jersey or Connecticut, that state's rules apply. Groups that want a toast on the way should book a vehicle that allows it.
None of this is complicated, but it is easy to skip when a group is excited about the night. A five minute check of the company's number and the vehicle it is sending is the cheapest insurance a casino trip can have.

About two and a half to three hours from Manhattan depending on the hour, over the Verrazzano and down the Garden State Parkway or across into New Jersey and onto the Turnpike. We choose on the day's traffic rather than by habit. The Borgata, Hard Rock and Ocean are the stops we are asked for most, and the chauffeur drops at the entrance you choose.
The Connecticut resorts, about two and a half to three hours from Manhattan on I-95, and less from Westchester. Popular for concerts as much as gaming, and often booked together as a two casino night. The car waits at the first resort and takes the group to the second when they are ready.
The local options: Resorts World in Queens and Empire City in Yonkers, each well under an hour from most of the city. Close enough that groups often keep the car waiting the whole time, or book by the hour. A short run means more of the evening at the tables and less on the road.
Resorts World Catskills, about two hours north, and Wind Creek in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a little less. Longer days that suit an SUV or a Sprinter for the legroom, with a rest stop planned on the way up or back.
Milestone birthdays and bachelor parties where the casino is the destination and the journey is part of the night. A stretch limousine or a coach keeps the group together both ways, and nobody is left to find their own ride home.

The return
The return is the leg to plan carefully. Decide in advance whether the car waits at the casino or goes home and comes back when you call. Waiting costs more but removes all uncertainty; returning is cheaper but needs about an hour's notice to dispatch. We quote both, and on the longer runs to Atlantic City and Connecticut, which take two hours or more each way, waiting is usually the better value. Waiting also means bags and coats can stay in the car through the evening.
Casino nights rarely end when people said they would, so changing the return time is free and expected. Call dispatch, which answers through the night, and the car is moved. If one or two people want to leave early, a second smaller vehicle can be arranged so the rest of the group keeps going. Tell dispatch as early as you can, and the second car is planned before anyone is waiting for it.
On the way home the chauffeur takes the route that is moving at that hour, plans a rest stop on request, and drops every passenger at their own door in the order that makes sense, not at one central point. On a run that ends after two in the morning, that last stretch through quiet streets is the part the group appreciates most.

The arithmetic on a casino run surprises people. A round trip to Atlantic City in an SUV, split six ways, usually lands close to what each person would spend on fuel, tolls and casino parking driving themselves, and nobody has to stay sober or stay awake. It also ends the debate about whose car is going and who is driving back.
For a stretch limousine with ten or more people the share drops further, which is why birthday and celebration groups almost always book the bigger vehicle. The routes
Every casino run has its own road, and choosing the right one on the day is worth more than any shortcut on a map.
Two routes, and the faster one depends on the hour. Over the Verrazzano and down the Garden State Parkway avoids the Turnpike's trucks; across into New Jersey and down the Turnpike avoids the Parkway's summer beach traffic. Leaving before three on a Friday afternoon is worth a good part of an hour. The tolls on either route are inside the flat rate, and so is the casino parking at the far end.
I-95 to the Connecticut resorts, rather than the Merritt Parkway, which commercial vehicles cannot use. From Westchester the run is shorter, and on a weekday evening the Connecticut stretch of I-95 is usually the slowest part. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are a short drive apart, which makes a two casino night easy to plan. On concert nights, allow extra time for the traffic leaving the arena.
Resorts World in Queens and Empire City in Yonkers are close enough that a round trip flat rate and an hourly booking can cost much the same. We compare both for you and recommend the cheaper one.
Resorts World Catskills is up the Thruway and Route 17, and Wind Creek in Bethlehem is across New Jersey on I-78. Both are long days, and the extra legroom of a Sprinter is worth it.
Shows and weekends
The casino resorts are as much about concerts, comedy and boxing as the gaming floor. Mohegan Sun has its own arena, Foxwoods and the Atlantic City resorts host touring shows most weekends, and a show night changes the plan: everyone wants to leave at the same moment, and the roads around the venue are busy for an hour afterwards.
For a show, we time the arrival to give the group dinner before the doors open, and we allow an extra hour in the window for the traffic leaving. The chauffeur waits at an agreed spot rather than in the queue at the main entrance, and texts the group where to find the car. If the show is the main event, tell us the start time and we will plan the whole evening backwards from it.
Some groups make a weekend of it. For an overnight stay we collect on the first day and return on the second, quoted as two transfers, which is usually cheaper than holding the vehicle and the chauffeur overnight. Luggage goes in the back, and the return time can be set the morning you leave.
If plans are open, book the return for the afternoon and move it by phone; dispatch will confirm the new time and the vehicle the same day. For a two night stay, the same applies: one transfer up, one back.
